A Life by Faith

Today I pose a question: What are you living for? Better yet, who are you living for?

In the bible study I co-lead here at the U for Campus Crusade we have been discussing a lot lately how the American dreams and ideals are often contradictory of what the bible teaches.  That's not to say we shouldn't have hope and aspirations, but maybe we need to step back and examine who those dreams are going to please.  Is it all for us, or will we being doing the work of the God who gave us this life to live?  I know its hard, believe me, the topic has come up again and again this semester, but its a process.

Here, American ideals teach us from a young age that we need to have money to be successful, or a fancy house, or a nice car, when in reality true joy can only be found in Christ.  We are taught to think about me, me, me to get where you want to go; it just doesn't work that way, not in my book.  We were specifically created for a purpose, Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has plans for our life, plans for a hope and a future.  Why then do we, myself included, often forfeit those plans when we think have a good idea of what we need for ourselves?  Do we really think that what we thought of could compare to what God has planned? Sounds crazy when I write it out like that, but we do it.  The daily verse today teaches that when Jesus is in command of our lives, we literally die to ourselves and that now Christ lives through us.  Living by faith doesn't happen over night, we can make the conscious decision to follow Him, but dying to ourselves and daily picking up our cross is a battle that can only be achieved through Him.

Daily Verse:
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.  ~ Galations 2:20

He gave Himself for us, how cool is that? We did not deserve any sort of grace or mercy yet He made the ultimate sacrifice.  That, my friends, is pretty great news straight from the Good Book.

Side note: Yesterday after writing my blog I thought of something.  On January 24, God taught me that having Jesus living in me meant that I needed to live out His plans for my life, not eat enough food for the two people that now occupied my body.  I now only eat for one...just so you know ha
