A perfect mess may seem like an oxymoron, but it is exactly what we are. Our human nature causes us to be a mess; we repeatedly enter into sin, get caught in predicaments we shouldn't, and stray from the path that God has laid out for us. It isn't only us that are a mess, but this world is a mess. The spiritual warfare going on causes war and disaster, famine and hardship; this world throws a mess on our plates every day. We are insulted, slandered, persecuted for our beliefs, but will we sulk in these hardships, or allow the Lord to work and perfect His power through them? Paul writes of how God perfects this mess that we are in 2 Corinthians.
Daily Verse:
He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ~ 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10
God, who gave His Son to die so that we could be freed from sin, sees us as perfect when we have confessed our sins. We are washed white as snow by the forgiveness of Christ, we have been made clean. We are not perfect, we are far from perfect, but we are a perfect mess. For in our weakness, He is stronger and in our darkness, He shines through.
Amy Grant sings of this beautiful mess in her song Better than a Hallelujah. The chorus goes like this, "We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody. Beautiful the mess we are, the honest cries of breaking hearts are better than a Hallelujah sometimes." God knows the struggles we go through, and being honest with Him, telling Him what is on your mind and in your heart is literally music to His ears. Like Paul writes about in Corinthians, reaching out to Him in need, allows Him to perfect His power in our weakness. And since Christ is in us, when we are weak then we are strong. His grace is sufficient for every sin, every problem, every hardship and every mishap that we come across
We cannot live this life on our own; what hope or purpose would that leave us with? We must accept this perfectly beautiful mess that we are, and delight in the fact that in our hardest and weakest moments, His power is made perfect and we are made strong.
