Your Story

What is your story?  Where does yours begin?

We all have one, a story, a past, a history, but we also all have a future; a future that God has laid out individually for each of us.  We can often get so wrapped up in our story that we forget we are only a small part of a much larger story, a story written by the Great Author Himself.

Have you ever noticed how immersed we are in stories, and how we love to get caught up in them? When we meet someone new, we love to hear stories about them and get to know them.  We read books to forget what is going on around us, or go to movies and get lost in a whole other world of the character.  The human spirit loves a good story.  That being said, our own story can often bring about confusion and frustration.  I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel as though I showed up to my own movie half way through it; things maybe aren't going my way or I am just unsure of how I got to where I am.  Day to day life can seem so random and make one feel lost and alone.  It is at times like this where I wish God's plan would be revealed, maybe He could provide a set of spark notes for my life so I could read ahead a bit and figure things out.  Better yet, you know those maps in malls and amusement parks with the big red star that says YOU ARE HERE, that would be useful; it would show where I am at, where I have been, and point out exactly where I am going.  Living out your story may seem tough at times, but it is important to keep the faith.

Daily Verse:
For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory.~Romans 8:29-30

This same verse is written in the message bible as, "God knew what He was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love Him along the same lines as the life of His Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in Him. After God made that decision of what His children should be like, He followed it up by calling people by name. After He called them by name, He set them on a solid basis with Himself. And then, after getting them established, He stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what He had begun."

Those little maps or glimpses into the plot of life may be appealing at the moment, but God requires of us a faith in Him, and a faith in His plan for us.  He is the Master, the Author of life, and we must give up our ideals for the fullness of life that can only be achieved through him.  Allow Him to take hold of the pen of life and continue to unveil your story before your eyes; do not be discouraged when things are rough, but look to Him for help and guidance.  This life, this story is all about our relationship with Christ; lean on Him and He will lift you up and set you apart, He will always be by your side.  He came to this Earth and gave a perfect example of how to depend on God to write the story of our lives, and is our hope and model of humanity restored.  Our lives have been shaped after the Son of God, how can we not find comfort and hope in that?

Acknowledge the larger story, give glory to Author of your life, and remain hopeful and steadfast in the truth that your story is modeled after Christ's.  Do not be discouraged for He holds us in His victorious right hand.

  1. This is my favorite post so far Jake. I think it's extra important for people to remember this in times of transition (aka high school to college, college to real world, etc)
